Meet the Esteem Mentoring team

We are a small team, and we like it that way. It means participants and families get to know the people supporting them, and we get to know them properly too. Here are some of the faces you will meet.

Jay Pickering, Founding Director

G'Day I'm Jay. I'm a dedicated community services professional with nearly a decade of experience across diverse roles in the sector. I hold a Certificate III in Community Services and a Diploma in Youth and Family Intervention. My journey began through youth basketball coaching, sparking a passion for youth work and disability support.

Outside of work, I'm passionate about mental and physical well-being, regularly recharging at the gym, practicing Muay Thai, or playing social basketball with my mates. I am a goal-setter and adventurer at heart. I proudly stepped into the Muay Thai ring last year, something that had been on my list for a long time.

I enjoy traveling, exploring new cultures, and sharing good times with loved ones. Oh, and I'm a proud Mighty Panthers supporter who brings positivity, and a bit of friendly banter with staff and participants.

Mike, Finance Manager at Esteem Mentoring

Mike

Finance Manager

Kia Ora! I'm Mike. I'm originally from the land of sheep, rugby and stunning scenery (yep, New Zealand), but these days I'm living the Aussie dream, complete with sunscreen, thongs and yelling at the TV during footy.

As Esteem Mentoring's Finance Manager, I bring my accounting background together with seven years of experience in aged care and three years in disability support. Having worked directly with people who need support, I understand the difference a caring, dependable team can make.

These days, my focus is on managing the finances, overseeing budgets and helping Esteem plan for the future. I enjoy getting the spreadsheets right, but behind every number are real people. For me, looking after the business's finances is part of helping our team deliver consistent, quality support to participants.

When I'm not working, you'll probably find me fishing (or at least pretending I know what I'm doing), watching movies, or yelling "Fins Up!" like my life depends on the Dolphins winning. I'm also keen to travel and see more of what the world has to offer.

Hannah, Case Manager at Esteem Mentoring

As Esteem Mentoring's Case Manager, I'm your first point of contact when you're looking for a new support provider. I take the time to get to know you, listen to what matters to you and understand the support you're looking for. I'm here to answer your questions and help make getting started feel clear and comfortable.

My role includes coordinating participant onboarding, service agreements and support arrangements, connecting with families and stakeholders, and working with our team to match supports to your needs, preferences and goals. I stay involved as those needs change, helping keep communication clear and supports consistent.

I approach every conversation with compassion, respect and a genuine desire to help people feel heard, valued and confident in their choice of provider.
