NDIS transport and travel support

Getting around is often the hardest part of getting out. Esteem Mentoring provides NDIS transport and travel support across Moreton Bay and Brisbane. Our workers can drive you to activities and appointments, and we offer travel training for people who want to use buses and trains on their own.

Getting you where you need to go

Plenty of people miss out on activities, appointments and catch-ups simply because getting there is too hard. Our workers can pick you up, drive you to where you are going, support you while you are there and bring you home again. It means one familiar person for the whole trip rather than a taxi and a stranger.

Support may include

  • transport to and from community, social and sporting activities
  • transport to medical, therapy and other appointments
  • travel to study, volunteering or work
  • support during the trip and at the destination
  • travel training on buses, trains and ferries
  • help planning routes and reading timetables
  • learning to use a go card and travel apps
  • practising what to do if a service is late or a plan changes

Travel training for more independence

Travel training teaches you to make a trip on your own. We start by doing the trip together, often many times, then gradually step back until you are confident to do it without us. Along the way we work on route planning, timetables, time management, personal safety and what to do when things do not go to plan.

Safety on the road

Workers who drive participants hold a current driver's licence and complete the checks required for their role. We plan trips around your needs, including seating, breaks and any support you need getting in and out of the car.

Transport questions

Does the NDIS pay for transport?

The NDIS can fund transport where it relates to your disability and goals. This might be a transport allowance, activity-based transport during supports, or travel training. What you can use depends on your plan.

How is transport charged during community access?

When a worker drives you during a support, the kilometres travelled are usually charged as activity-based transport. We explain the rate in your service agreement before support starts.

What is travel training?

Travel training teaches you to travel independently on public transport. A worker does the trip with you, then gradually steps back until you can do it confidently on your own.

Can you take me to medical appointments?

Yes. Our workers can drive you to appointments and support you while you are there, if that is part of your agreed support.
